The tournament appeared thanks to the cooperation of the organization of Barry Hearn and eight leading professional snooker players of that time. It took place over three seasons, and all Matchroom Professional matches were played at Cliffs Pavilion, Southend-on-Sea .
In 1988, the tournament had a sponsor - the company LEP. Because of this, the name of the competition changed to the LEP Matchroom Championship.
This tournament was not on the Maine season calendar.
