Brahmanda Purana

“ Brahmanda-purana ” is the sacred text of Hinduism in Sanskrit , one of the eighteen main Puranas (called “Mahapurans”), in almost all lists of the Puranas it is ranked in eighteenth place. [1] The name of this Purana comes from the description of the brahmanda contained in it, the "cosmic egg" of Brahma from which the universe was formed. Brahma also describes future cosmic eras. In the Brahmanda Purana, Radha and Krishna , Rama , the avatar of Visnu Parasurama are mentioned. Her text consists of 12,000 slokas . It is said that this Purana is the best gift that can be given to a brahmana .

The Brahmanda Purana is known for glorifying the goddess Lalita in it - there are three texts that are very important for most Shaktists :

  • "Lalita-pakhyana" - a description of the goddess Lalita. It is located in the last part of the Brahmanda Purana and consists of 45 chapters (of which the last 5 chapters are the most famous and popular). It praises the divine mother Lalita, explains the meaning of prayers to the goddess, various mudras, nyas, dhyan, initiations; as well as the mystical placement of various deities in Sri Chakra .
  • " Lalita-sahasranama ", consisting of 320 verses and divided into 3 chapters.
  • “Lalita-trishati” (300 names of Lalita), to which Shankara made a comment - “Lalita-trishati-bhashya.”
