The surface part ( lat. Pars superficialis ) begins with tendon bundles from the front and middle sections of the zygomatic arch; the deepest part ( lat. pars profunda ) - from the middle and back sections of the zygomatic arch. Bunches of muscle fibers of the surface part follow obliquely down and back, deep - down and anteriorly. Both parts of the chewing muscle are connected and attached to the outer surface of the branches of the lower jaw and to its corner in the area of ββchewing tuberosity [2] .
Function
In mammals, chewing muscles are well developed, which ensures the capture and mechanical processing of food, and in herbivorous forms, the chewing muscle itself is the strongest, and in carnivores, the temporal muscles are responsible for the strength of the bite.
Raises the lower jaw, participates in the advancement of the jaw [3] .
