The first shelter was created by Daria Taraskina back in the days of the USSR , when she witnessed the state "recycling" of stray animals: " I saw a mix of dead and uninhabited dogs being thrown into huge cisterns on flocks. I began to redeem these barrels for money and nursing the survivors . ” [five]
To date, the fund contains 5 shelters in Moscow and the Moscow region [2] , which are home to more than 2500 animals. [6] . In addition to stray dogs in the shelters of the fund contain cows and exotic animals (pythons, monkeys, etc.) [7] All animals that are in the shelters of the fund are sterilized . [3]
In addition to dogs and cats, there are also others in shelters, in particular animals from closed private zoos , [3] [2] former stars of circus and cinema. [8] . The foundation has its own hospice for the maintenance of terminally ill and old animals. [2] BIM shelters do not receive subsidies from the state. [five]
Excursions for schoolchildren are conducted at BIM shelters. [5] .
