Villa "Elena" is a five-story hotel of the beginning of the 20th century in the city of Yalta . Restored at the beginning of the XXI century .
In 1907, the Saratov merchant Ivan Vasilyevich Tikhomirov bought the Darsan dacha (the name of the building, which was located on the site of the current Villa Helena from 1877 to 1907). After some time, Tikhomirov decided to completely rebuild the building. He ordered the project to the famous Yalta architect Lev Nikolaevich Shapovalov (1873-1957). (According to the projects of L. N. Shapovalov, houses of writer A. P. Chekhov , Prince A. Chingiz, the building of the Yalta city theater , the parochial school of Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and many others were built in Yalta .)
The construction of the villa was completed by the autumn of 1912 . At the time of construction, the Villa was the highest building in Yalta, had its own park and a lifting machine (elevator). From 1912 to 1918, “Villa Elena” accepted notables as a 1st class hotel, which was managed by the merchant Tikhomirov’s wife, Elizaveta Ivanovna.
On September 16, 1912, the newspaper “Russian Riviera” (No. 208) placed an announcement about the opening of the comfortable and furnished hotel “Villa Elena” on the Embankment. More information about the new hotel was published in the guidebooks of the time. In the "Guide to the Crimea" G. Moskvich for 1913 it is written:
The four-storey building was built in 1912 by the project of the architect L. N. Shapovalov in the Art Nouveau style. It was modeled on the best foreign hotels, with all the latest improvements and amenities not available in other hotels in Yalta, such as: a lifting machine, central water heating, water in each room, an extensive terrace with a magnificent view of the sea and mountains, a living room, reading room, baths. All rooms with balconies are facing south and overlook a large ornamental garden. Due to the excellent location of the hotel, removed from the city noise, dust, winds. First class restaurant. Rooms are given daily and monthly. Prices are moderate. Phone number 515.
The Tikhomirovs case flourished. Their only daughter married Fyodor Alekseevich Rofe-Cherkasov, a "tradesman of the city of Yalta who graduated from the university," the son of the owner of a bathroom on the Embankment, married "a university graduate." The first granddaughter of the Tikhomirovs, Tatiana, was born in 1910, the second, Tamara, was baptized 4 days after the opening of Villa Elena on September 20, 1912. The peaceful life of the family was destroyed by the Bolshevik revolution . After the Soviet power was established in Crimea (autumn 1920) Villa “Elena” was nationalized .
During the reign of the Soviet authorities, the building was used as a health resort, and later as a resort clinic. In 2000, began a full restoration, which ended in 2007 . In 2007, Villa Elena opened the doors again like Villa Elena Hotel & Residences. .
