The tournament was attended by four professional snooker players who played among themselves three times in the group stage. Two players with the best results in the group stage, reached the final. The competition was held twice a year (spring and autumn) from 1971 to 1972 and all the time with sponsorship from the tobacco company Park Drive. After 1972, the tournament ceased to be held, as the sponsor switched to working with a professional world championship .
In October 1972, in a group stage match, Ray Reardon made a break at that time in professional competitions - 146 points.
