This tournament was notable for being the first one held at the Wembley Conference Center (later Masters matches began to take place at this place). The idea of holding such a competition belonged to Mike Barrett - a man who actively promoted boxing . The Dry Blackthorn Cup was a “one-day” tournament in which only four snooker players took part, and the winner was Patsy Fagan .
The following year, Barrett organized another similar tournament - Champion of Champions .
