Following the tradition of the British documentary series “ Up ”, this series tells about 20 [1] heroes (some refused to star in some years) who were born in 1983 in the Soviet Union , inviting them to shoot every seven years to trace their life against the backdrop of social and political change.
For post-Soviet countries, the project is unique, but has many foreign counterparts.
Each film shows the plots of past films. About 600 hours of material were shot about each of the characters, of which 11-12 minutes are included in the film. The British and Russian editions are published in the respective languages. In Soviet times, the series was a joint project of the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company and the Granada TV company (Great Britain), nowadays Russia, Great Britain and the French-German ART channel [1] .
The music for the series was written by Russian composer and conductor Ilya Demutsky . Also in the films are songs “ Chizh & Co ” - a phantom , “ Disco Crash ” - move, move , Enya , Britney Spears , etc.
In the British version of the first film “Born in the USSR: Seven Years”, the voiceover was voiced by the host of the Russian BBC service Seva Novgorodtsev .
The version of the director Born in the USSR: 21 Up, with a total duration of three hours, was shown on the Rossiya channel in June 2007 and consists of two parts: Mixing Languages and Mountain Megiddo. This longer and full version includes all children from previous films, not only those shown in the English version. However, due to an agreement with the distributor, this version cannot be shown outside the former Soviet Union. A similar version was shown to a select audience during the visit of Sergei Miroshnichenko to the United States in April 2007.
The team, which together with Miroshnichenko worked on the creation of the fourth part “Born in the USSR. 28 years old, young. In 2011, Miroshnichenko said: “The guys with whom we made the film are on average 28 years old. There is someone to hand over this project because it will be shot before the heroes of the film reach 70 years old. This is what Andrei Tarkovsky dreamed of - to show human life along its entire length. ” [2] Premiere of the fourth part “Born in the USSR. Continuation ”, where the 28-year-old heroes of the project are shown, took place on September 1 and 2, 2012 on the TV channel“ Russia 1 ”at 22:40. [3] The director, film crew and heroes of the film - Marina, Dima, Anton and Sasha participated in the talk show "Watching ... Discussing ..." on the TV channel "Culture", filming - September 3 [4] , broadcast - September 15, 2012 [5 ] .
In September 2018, some fragments of the fifth film were shown for the first time at the “Let's Live!” Festival [6] . At the end of October 2018, the director announced that his shooting was ongoing [7] .
