Tirupati ( English Tirupati , Telugu ) is a town in Chittur district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh . [2] . One of the largest cities in the region Rayalashima . Located at the foot of the Eastern Gkhatov at a distance of 550 km south of the capital of the state Andhra Pradesh Hyderabad and 100 km north of Chennai .

Tirupati is one of the largest pilgrimage sites in Hinduism. At 10 km north-west of Tirupati, on the top of the Tirumala hills at an altitude of 853 meters above sea level, is the Temple of Tirumala Venkateshvara , dedicated to one of the forms of Vishnu - Venkatesware . This richest Hindu temple in the world is called the “Hindu Vatican”. Every year, it is visited by millions of pilgrims. There are also many popular temples in Tirupati itself. Tirupati is also a major economic and educational center of Andhra Pradesh.
The name of the city in translation from Tamil means “the spouse of the goddess Lakshmi ”. The first mention of Tirupati is found in the epos of Tamil literature " Shilapadikaram " and " Manimehale " (V-IV centuries AD.).
Population
According to the 2011 India Census, the population of Tirupati is 459,985; of these, 231,456 men and 228,529 women. Children under the age of 6 - 41,589. The literacy rate is 85.22% [3] .
