Thyrunallur Karunakaran ( Malayal. തിരുനല്ലൂര് കരുണാകരന് , October 8, 1924 - July 5, 2006) - Indian poet, scientist and communist teacher from the state of Kerala , India .

Biography
Early years
Thyrunallur Karunakaran was born in the village of Perinad In the Kollam district of Kerala . He began to study Sanskrit before entering elementary school and was associated with the working class from a very young age. His first book - the translation of the poems of Oliver Goldsmith - Karunakaran published during his school years. In his student years, he published several poems, lyrics and articles in periodicals. His close contacts with union leaders at this time made him a staunch supporter of the Communist Party of India .
Career
After receiving a degree in philology for learning the Malayalam language , he became a teacher at a university college in Thiruvananthapuram . For 6 years he was a member of the Kerala Public Service Commission, which deals with the evaluation and testing of candidates for public office. He later worked as the editor of the weekly magazine Dzhanauugam, published by the KPI . In 1973, as a member of the delegation of Indian writers at the conference held in Kazakhstan by Afro-Asian writers, Karunakaran visited the USSR .
Death
Thyrunallur Karunakaran died on July 5, 2006 at his residence in Quilone. According to his wishes, he was buried without the usual religious rites and ceremonies. In his honor, every year on May 1-3, a three-day cultural festival “Thirunallur Kawelsavam” is held on the lake shore in Ashtamudi Quilon.
Works
Karunakaran deeply studied Indian philosophy and Marxism and on the basis of them formed his own unique point of view, which is the central element of his poetry. Karunakaran wrote long poems and short songs and translated books from foreign languages into Malayalam . He has published 13 books of poetry, translations, 4 books of prose and several articles on language and literature and on sociopolitical topics. In particular, he translated the poem "Gypsies" by Pushkin .
