Biography
He graduated from the Department of History and Theory of Art at the History Department of Moscow State University named after MV Lomonosov (Moscow State University) in 1976. In 1984 he defended his thesis, in 2000 - a doctorate.
In 1976-1984 he worked at the Arkhangelskoye Museum-Estate as a senior researcher, custodian of funds, methodologist-manager of the museum’s excursion and lecture work.
Since 1984 he has been teaching at the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute named after V.I. Lenin (since 1990 - Moscow State Pedagogical University ), since 2000 - at the Department of History and Theory of Art of the History Department of Moscow State University. Since 2010, permanent curator of the international conference "Actual problems of the theory and history of art . "
Karev's specialization is Russian art of the second half of the 18th century, especially the portrait genre in the era of Catherine the Great .
