Escuintla [2] ( Spanish Escuintla ) is one of 22 departments in Guatemala . The administrative center is the city of Escuintla . The department covers an area of 4,384 km² and is located in low-lying coastal areas in the south of the country. It borders in the west with the Department of Suchitepéquez , in the north with the departments of Chimaltenango , Sacatepéquez and Guatemala , in the east with the department of Santa Rosa .
