NGC 7331 (other designations - PGC 69327 , UGC 12113 , MCG 6-49-45 , ZWG 514.68 ) is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Pegasus . It is located at a distance of about 43 million light years from the sun. It was discovered by William Herschel in 1784 . In 1959, Milton Humason discovered a supernova (SN1959D) with coordinates 32 "W and 13" N from the center of the galaxy.

Like the Milky Way , the galaxy NGC 7331 has a pronounced spiral structure, so it is often called the “double” of our Galaxy, and its image is often used to give an idea of the appearance of the Milky Way. This is the brightest object not included in the Messier catalog .
This object is one of those listed in the original edition of the New Common Catalog (NGC).
