Career
Kariya spent an outstanding amateur career playing for the college hockey team at the University of Maine Black Bears (1999-2003). During his studies, he received a scholarship in mathematics. For four years, Caria Black Bears made it to the finals of the four NCAA Championships twice. In the last year of Caria’s performance, he, as the team captain, spent 39 games and scored 50 points in them for performance. In the 2002-03 season Martin Karia was awarded the Lena Zeglarski Prize. Having completed his amateur career, he with 155 points took 11th place among the scorers of the Black Bears team in the entire history of its existence and, according to a survey of fans, was included in the university team of the decade.
