Dwar (a) ka ( Guja . દ્વારકા , Hindi द्वारका , English Dwarka, Dvarka, Dwaraka, Dvaraka ) is a city and municipality in Jamnagar County in the Indian state of Gujarat . Located on the shores of the Arabian Sea , in the west of the Kathiawar Peninsula. Another name is also given in Sanskrit literature - Dvaravati . Here is located one of the most famous temples of Krishna - the temple of Dvarakadisha . According to the Mahabharata and the Puranas , Dvaraka was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Krishna . It is described that after the death of Krishna, the original Dvaraka sank to the bottom of the sea.
