SubViewer is a utility for adding and synchronizing subtitles with a video track. It was created by David Dolinsky in 1999 and was available for download on a personal website, [1] At about the same time, David's friend created software for extracting subtitles from a DVD called SubRip.

Technical Information
SubViewer contains a text editor and built-in Microsoft ActiveX Media Player.
SubViewer uses a text file with a .sub extension to describe subtitle data and its time. Alternating languages or similar things (such as “only songs”, “compatible with version 1.0”) can be included by creating a separate .sub file for each case.
The header sections that were defined in the [INFORMATION] tag contain metadata and instructions. Immediately after, the [SUBTITLE] section is declared, consisting of time ranges separated by commas (accurate to hundredths of a second), and a header located between them:
00: 04: 35.03,00: 04: 38.82 Hi guys ... Sit down, please ... 00: 05: 00.19,00: 05: 03.47 Petya, [br] Are you crazy?
The second edition of the format allows the use of the [br] tag for line breaks. [2]
SubViewer can read many other subtitle formats, such as SMI (SAMI) (Microsoft), JacoSub, MicroDVD, SRT (SubRip), Sub Station Alpha and DVDSubtitle.
SubViewer can also read Musics with synchronized subtitles, like Karaoke software.
