Biography

Abd al-Rahman IV became a caliph in 1018, when the troops of his supporters, among them the ruler of Almeria Khairan and the emir of Zaragoza Munzir I al-Mansur , took Cordoba and killed Ali al-Nasir [1] .

According to other sources, Hairan and Abd ar-Rahman IV learned about the killing of his slaves by eunuchs - Sakaliba , when they were just preparing a campaign against Cordoba. Caliph in Cordoba proclaimed brother Ali - al-Qasim al-Mamun . Hairan, with the caliph Abd ar-Rahman IV and the associates Munzir ibn Yahya atujibi, Suleiman ibn Hudm and the Catalans, went to Cordoba. Abd ar-Rahman IV, dissatisfied with the fact that they want to make him a puppet, tried to free himself from Khayran’s guardianship, relying on the ruler of Valencia Mubarak. Having decided to get rid of a too independent claimant to the throne, Hairan and Munzir dragged Abd ar-Rahman IV into the war with the Granada Berbers . Approaching Granada, they demanded that the ruler of the city of Zawi Zirid recognize the authority of the new caliph, and then during the decisive battle left their caliph. Abd ar-Rahman IV, having lost the battle, fled to Guadis , where he was killed on the orders of Khairan [2] .
