Negotiations

In December 1678, a nobleman Daudov was sent to Constantinople with a proposal to restore friendly relations. Getman Samoilovich , with whom they had an affair on this occasion, also sympathized with the idea of concluding peace with the Ottoman Empire and the Crimea. Sympathized with the world and in the Ottoman state. [one]

In the autumn of 1679, Daudov returned with a letter from the great vizier, who demanded that a special ambassador be sent for peace negotiations and offered, for his part, to send an envoy to Crimea for peace talks. [one]

At the end of 1679, Sukhotin and clerk Mikhailov were sent to Moscow from Khan Murad Girey to the Crimea, but this embassy ended in nothing, as clerk Mikhailov arbitrarily left Sukhotin and left for Moscow. [1] Negotiations in the Crimea dragged on, as the Russians and Cossacks of Samoilovich tried to defend the land along the lower and middle Dnieper.

In August 1680 [1] the Russian ambassadors were sent to conclude a truce in Crimea - resident in Poland stolnik and colonel V. M. Tyapkin , clerk Nikita Zotov and general secretary of the Zaporizhzhya Army Semyon Rakovich . [2] In December, a draft treaty was sent to Istanbul, and soon the khan received the authority to sign the final peace. According to its conditions, Russia kept on the right bank only Kiev with the okrug. The demands of the Russians to leave the Zaporizhzhya Sich under the supreme authority of the Tsar were resolutely rejected by the Turks. The proposal to turn the right bank from the Bug to the Dnieper into a neutral zone, where it would be forbidden to build settlements and fortresses, also failed. On the contrary, the Ottomans began active development of the region. In 1681, Yuri Khmelnitsky, which was no longer necessary, was arrested and sent to Turkey. Right-bank lands were transferred under the control of the Moldavian ruler George Duci, who began their restoration, luring the population from the left bank of the Dnieper [41] .

The peace treaty concluded in Crimea needed approval by the Turkish Sultan. To this end, in 1681 the clerk Woznitsyn went to Constantinople. In Turkey, they did not agree to leave a clause in the agreement on which Zaporozhye was considered to belong to the Tsar of Moscow. Voznitsyn did not want to recognize the treaty without this clause, but in the end, on the advice of the Patriarch of Constantinople, he recognized, and Moscow was very pleased with this peace treaty. Summary

The agreement was concluded for a period of 20 years and ended the wars of the 70s of the XVII century between these states for the possession of the right-bank lands of the Dnieper.

Under contract:

  • the border between Turkey and Russia is established along the Dnieper , the Sultan and Khan pledged not to help the enemies of Russia;
  • Russia joins the left-bank lands of the Dnieper and Kiev with the okrug. Zaporozhye formally became independent. Russia agreed to the annual provision of the Khan "treasury";
  • Cossacks receive the right to fishing, salt mining and free swimming along the Dnieper and its tributaries to the Black Sea ;
  • Crimeans and Nogais have the right to wander and hunt on both banks of the Dnieper

The Bakhchisaray peace treaty once again redistributed land between neighboring states. Also, the agreement was of great international importance and stipulated the signing of the " Eternal Peace " in 1686 between Russia and Poland .
