Geography and Hydrology

The Delta River begins its course in the south of central Alaska, its source is located at Mount Hayes [1] . Connects the Tangle Lakes system of lakes. Further, Delta flows north in the Alaskan Range , taking in numerous streams and forming 21 lakes. The Southist-Fairbanks and Valdez-Cordoba flows through the Alaska Census Zones. It flows into the Tanana River near the village of Big Delta ( English Big Delta ). Length - 256 kilometers.

Since 1980, the upper reaches of the river belong to a special protected area - National Wild and Scenic River .

Name Etymology

The name of the river was given to her in 1885 by Lieutenant Allen. The Indian name is "Sosendig" ( English Thothendig ) [1] .
