The flag of the urban district is the city of Magadan, Magadan Region of the Russian Federation - along with the coat of arms, the main symbol of the municipality and bodies of city self-government.

The flag was approved on July 1, 1999 by the decision of the Magadan City Council No. 48-D [1] and entered in the State Heraldry Register of the Russian Federation with assignment of registration number 602.
Description
“The flag of the city of Magadan is a scarlet cloth with a ratio of width to length 2: 3, bearing the image of the city coat of arms, over a blue (cyan, azure) stripe along the lower edge of the cloth 1/3 of the width, evenly divided by three scaly curved belts of white (silver) color. "
Justification of Symbols
The flag is based on the modern coat of arms of the city of Magadan (the author of the coat of arms project is artist Nikolai Merzlyuk).
In the center of the red strip, a legendary golden deer is depicted in a rapid leap, representing both the two main branches of the economy of the Magadan region, the administrative center of which is Magadan - gold mining and reindeer husbandry.
Red color is a symbol of courage, selflessness, heroism, fair struggle and life.
Yellow color ( gold ) is a symbol of strength, grandeur, intelligence, generosity.
The blue strip with stylized sea waves symbolizes Magadan, like the sea gate of Kolyma .
Blue color (light blue ) is a symbol of exalted aspirations, thinking, sincerity and virtue.
White color ( silver ) is a symbol of purity, wisdom, nobility, peace, and mutual cooperation.
