Unitary authorities of England ( English Unitary authorities of England ) - administrative-territorial entities in England , managed by one authority, combining the functions and powers of the county council and district council.
Unitary units are formed either by additionally giving the district council a non-metropolitan county the functions and powers of the county, or, on the contrary, the county council is additionally given the functions and powers of the district.
Most of the unitary units of England were formed in the period from 1995 to 1998, the rest in 2009.
