Budapest Festival Orchestra ( Hungarian. Budapesti Fesztiválzenek , Eng. Budapest Festival Orchestra ) is a Hungarian symphony orchestra based in Budapest .
It was created in 1983 by the famous Hungarian musicians Ivan Fischer and Zoltan Kochish , who jointly led the group until 1997 , when Kochish headed the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra , and Fisher remained the sole leader of the Budapest Festival Orchestra. In the 1990s the orchestra switched to full-time musicians and began to be managed by a specially created fund, receiving at the same time constant financial support from the Budapest administration, and since 2003 , the Hungarian Ministry of Culture.
The orchestra successfully tours around the world, participates in leading music festivals. The orchestra’s recordings, such as the music of Bela Bartok ’s ballet Wonderful Mandarin , his Concert for Orchestra , the Faust Symphony by Franz Liszt , and Gustav Mahler’s symphony, received the most recognition.
In 2008, he entered the top ten best orchestras in the world according to Gramophone magazine. [one]
