This object is one of those listed in the original edition of the New General Catalog .
Despite the fact that NGC 6781 has an elliptical morphology, its kinematic and emission characteristics are rather unusual, which indicates the presence of a bipolar source oriented to the observer line. [1] That is we see a nebula from one of its poles. NGC 6781 has a barrel-shaped structure with a shell of dust enriched with carbon and a surrounding halo, with a temperature of 26-40 kelvins . [2]
