Origin of title
Steins is a lake that is a relic of the last ice age, and fills a recess formed by the retreating glacier and filled with flood waters. The name is given from the Roman stone house, the ruins of which were discovered in close proximity to the lake.
Ecology
The lake is located in a wooded area and it is nourished by clean spring waters, so the water quality in it is perfect. The coastal zone is covered mostly with densely lying stones with reeds growing from the sodden soil. Stein is also one of the warmest lakes in Germany, as at the beginning of summer the water often warms up to 23 degrees. In the future, water can warm up to 26 degrees or more.
Water use
The lake has been used by holidaymakers since 1934. An open-air swimming pool and family-friendly places are available on the north shore. Other tourists use the south-eastern coastal zone of the lake for swimming. The outdoor pool is located right between the large trees, there is also a playground , parking , toilets and showers, and a rescue station. All this makes Stein a popular family holiday destination. Also there is a pool for family groups, a cafe and a restaurant connected by a terrace with a lakeside. Free access to the lake - from the south-east coast.
Environmental measures
In the coastal zone is not allowed to make fires for cooking barbecue, the use of inflatable swimming facilities, boats, as well as surfboards. This is to preserve the reeds that do not allow the lake to swamp.
