Description

Issued in micro-sub-meson-electronic form, because if it were printed on paper, like an ordinary book, a traveler would need several space tankers to take it with him. (I-3)

The guidebook is kept in a transparent case on which it says in friendly letters: DO NOT PANIC! ( DON'T PANIC ). This is a device similar to an enlarged pocket calculator. It housed a hundred tiny buttons and a screen of ten centimeters on the diagonal, on which at the first request any of the millions of articles stored in the memory of this device could appear. You press the button, and the table of contents appears on the screen. The screen starts to glow, and numbers run on it. You type the desired word, and press the big red button under the screen, and the words begin to float on the screen (apparently, automatic scrolling). At the same time, the delivered announcer's voice begins to read aloud. (I: 5)

Facts

  • More popular than the Heavenly book about tasty and healthy food , disappears from the shelves faster than Another fifty-three ways to have fun in zero gravity , and causes more controversy than a series of philosophical super-militants by Uoulon Collufid What God was wrong about , More about God’s grave mistakes , and What is he like that, this God? (I: introduction)
  • He successfully replaced the multivolume Encyclopaedia Galactica and became the generally accepted body of all knowledge, because although it contains incorrect information, or at least wildly inaccurate (and much is missing in it at all), it has two big advantages over with Encyclopaedia, primarily for hiking enthusiasts. Firstly, it is cheaper; and secondly, on the cover he has written in big cheerful letters a friendly advice: WITHOUT PANIC! ( DON'T PANIC!, DON'T PANIC! ) (I: intro)
