Description
Butterflies are small. Wingspan 9-15 mm, rarely up to 25 mm. The wings are relatively wide, often with a pointed apex, and especially at the hind wing, with a slightly concave outer edge. The coloration, at least in the Palaearctic representatives, is predominantly monochromatic - brown, ocher, yellow or white, the pattern is often with 1-2 dark dots or a few dark dots. The antennae of many species are long, reaching or almost reaching the top of the fore wing. Palps well developed, relatively large.
Butterflies fly at dusk and at night. Preimaginal stages are not well understood. Caterpillars live secretly, in some species feeding on plant detritus , rotting wood , in others - green leaves that they weave together or fold into tubes.
Range
Most species are common in the tropics, especially in the Indo-Malayan region.
