Emiliano Zapata ( Spanish: Emiliano Zapata ) is a municipality in Mexico , Tabasco , with an administrative center in the city of the same name . The population, according to the 2010 census, was 29 518 people.

General information
Initially, the municipality was called Monte Cristo, and in 1927 it was renamed in honor of the hero of the Mexican revolution - General Emiliano Zapata [3] .
The area of the municipality is 592 km², which is 2.39% of the total state area [4] . It borders with other municipalities of Tabasco : in the east with Tenosike and the Balancan , and in the west with Honuta , as well as with other states of Mexico: in the north with Campeche , and in the south and west with Chiapas .

The municipality was formed in December 1883 [3] , it consists of 65 settlements, the largest of which are:

Economic activity
According to statistics from 2000, the working population is employed by sectors of the economy in the following proportions: agriculture, livestock and fishing - 26.2%, industry and construction - 17.1%, services and tourism - 55.1%, etc. - 1.6% [4] .
Agriculture, Livestock, and Fishing
One of the main sectors of the local economy is agriculture. Greater importance is attached to the cultivation of corn , rice , sorghum , beans and watermelons .
Another important sector is animal husbandry. According to statistics, in 2000 there were 42,817 cattle , 7,495 pigs , 957 sheep and 2,599 horses , as well as 91,993 poultry .
Another sector that deserves attention is the fishing of river fish. The main types of fish caught: perch , carp , crappie , spiny lobsters and others. Also in the municipality there are a number of enterprises involved in the cultivation and cutting of tilapia .
Industry
There are not many industrial enterprises, among them food processing plants, a broom factory, furniture production, as well as a Nestle dairy plant can be distinguished. There is also an enterprise for growing eucalyptus seedlings, which are then distributed to other state municipalities.
Trade and Services
In the municipality there are many grocery stores and shops, supermarkets and shopping centers, shoe stores and boutiques, souvenir shops and pharmacies, centers of building materials and hardware, and others.
Here you can also use the services of banks and ATMs, hotels and restaurants, bars, cafes, discos and cinemas, an Internet cafe, car rental and car repair shops, as well as medical services [3] .
Infrastructure
According to 2010 statistics, the infrastructure is developed as follows [4] :
- electrification: 98.6%;
- water supply: 96.1%;
- water disposal: 98.3%.
Tourism
In the vicinity of the city of Emiliano Zapata , on the banks of the river Usumasinta , there is a hotel complex with stunning views of the New Hope lagoon, with the possibility of fishing.
The city itself is very beautiful, it is built on several hills with a wonderful panorama . There are many service organizations in the city for tourists. Here is a museum where exhibits on the following topics are held: General Emiliano Zapata , Mexican Revolution , Tabasco , Carlos Pellicier , as well as two expositions on Olmec and Mayan cultures [3] .
