The 22nd World Ice Hockey Championship was held in the Swedish city of Haparanda and Finnish Oulu from March 24 to April 1, 2001 . For the first time, the world championship was held in two countries at once. The Russian team became the world champion for the second time, in the final match defeated the Swedish team with a score of 6: 1.
