Motherboard Chipsets
SIS fame brought the chipset for processors 486, which consisted of two chips - 496 and 497 . It supported the latest PCI bus at that time, except for the older ISA and VLB . The motherboards on this chipset, as well as processors such as Intel 80486DX4 , AMD 5x86 or Cyrix Cx5x86 , had performance comparable to the earlier Intel Pentium with a frequency of 60-120 MHz, and cost significantly cheaper.
Achieving late success, SiS continued to position itself as a manufacturer of budget chipsets. The company emphasized high integration in order to minimize the cost of hardware solutions. Highly integrated chipsets with integrated video are widely known, such as SiS 5596, SiS 5598 and SiS 530 for Socket-7 systems, and SiS 620 for Slot 1. They were one of the first chipsets for the PC platform with such a high degree of integration. They made it possible to assemble a workable configuration only from the motherboard, processor, and RAM.

The SiS 530 chipset (Sindbad) with support for the south bridge SiS 5595 Socket 7 supported a maximum of 1.5 Gb SDRAM , a bus frequency of 66 to 124 MHz, 2 to 8 megabytes of shared memory for the integrated AGP SiS 6306 2D / 3D graphics controller, including UDMA66 IDE disk subsystem. Motherboards built on this chipset were positioned as a budget office platform, along with budget Intel , AMD K6, and Cyrix 6x86 chipsets. The graphics controller supported Direct3D 6.0 and OpenGL , but still had poor performance for 3D acceleration [1] .

Some video cards have a 3D accelerator, but it only works with the proprietary SiS driver for Windows [1] (the company does not provide documentation for writing drivers [2] ). However, the Linux kernel includes a working unofficial driver that does not yet support 3D, but makes it possible to use these video cards under Linux.
