Story
The author draws an unusual afterlife where the main character gets after death. This world is very far from religious beliefs, money rules in it, the amount of which depends solely on the memory that the deceased left in the real world. Everything is possible here for money - to become young, gain power or build your own little paradise in accordance with your ideas about the afterlife.
However, in reality, one needs to pay for one’s existence: if the money runs out, the deceased finally disappears. Heaven is full of crooks ready to launch a paw into the posthumous capital of an inexperienced deceased. Best of all, in a special Citadel, people live, the memory of which remains forever in history. In the afterlife, it is not so important whether a person was good or bad during his life, he did good or did evil, because for each memory of the dead a certain amount is credited to his “personal account”.
The main character finds in heaven all his relatives, meets new people (he knew even N.V. Gogol), and how he can equip the lives of all the people dear to him. Having lived another long “second life”, Ilya Ilyich realizes that his time will soon come, and someday he will also disappear completely.
