Readmission ( Eng. To readmit - accept back ) - the consent of the state to receive back to its territory its citizens (as well as, in some cases, foreigners who were previously or lived in this state) who are subject to deportation from another state.
Refusal of readmission of its citizens is a conscious policy of some states seeking to increase their diaspora abroad. Embassies of such states refuse to issue passports or return certificates to their deported citizens. Even more problematic is the return to the country of foreigners - transit migrants.
The mechanism of coercion of states to readmission - bilateral and multilateral agreements. Their conclusion is one of the priorities of the EU migration policy. Thus, the conclusion of the Russia- EU readmission agreement in 2006 was one of the conditions for facilitating the visa regime on a bilateral basis, and the first such agreement between Russia (with Lithuania ) was a condition for concluding an agreement on a simplified procedure for transit to the Kaliningrad region . Russia, in turn, also seeks to conclude such agreements with the states-major suppliers of illegal migrants to Russia and transit migrants - to the European Union.
