Hoffman made his World Cup debut in 1996 ; in March 2002, for the first time in his career, he entered the podium at the World Cup downhill stage. In total, today he has 6 hits in the top three at the stages of the World Cup, 4 in downhill and 2 in the super giant. The best achievement in the overall World Cup standings is for Hoffman 16th place in the 2003-04 season.
He took part in the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City , where he took 8th place in downhill.
At the 2006 Olympics in Turin , he won bronze in the super giant, in addition he took 17th place in downhill.
At the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver , he became 23rd in downhill.
During his career, he participated in four world championships , but did not win medals in them, the best result - 4th place in the super giant at the 2003 World Cup in St. Moritz .
