Description
Butterflies are very small. Wingspan 3.5-9 mm. The wings are lanceolate. Antennae reach 1/2 front wing length. No eyes. Fore wings dark with transverse stripes and strokes. The median cell of the fore wing is not divided by the stem M , R 5 and M 1 on a common stem, M 3 sometimes and Cu 1 are reduced. Anal plug is not expressed.
Biology
Caterpillars are leafy miners of woody plants. Younger ages form serpentine mines, which then expand to become swollen. Pelletize on soil in a sheath cut out of a leaf. Worldwide distribution, in the Palaearctic 4 genera.

The family has 12 genera and about 120 species (data for 2011) [2] .
