Walesa , also Lake Valen , Lake Valenstadt ( German: Walensee , French: Lac de Walenstadt , romance. Lag Rivaun ) - a lake in the north-eastern foothills of the Alps in Switzerland , one of the largest lakes in the country. The water surface of the lake is located at an altitude of 419 m above sea level , the area of the mirror is 24.1 km², the volume of water is 2.49 km³, and the maximum depth is 150 m [1] .

Geography
Walenze is located in eastern Switzerland on the territory of the cantons of St. Gallen and Glarus near the city of Walenstadt . It has a strongly elongated shape from west to east. Settlements located near the lake are the city of Walenstadt on the east coast, the villages of Quinten and Amden on the north coast, Wesen on the west and Unterterzen , Quarten , Murg , Mühlehorn , Obstalden and Filzbach on the south.
The Lint River flows through the lake, flowing into Lake Zurich . Before the correction of its channel, which began in 1807, the Lint route did not include Walenz, and the main river feeding the lake was , the level of the lake then was 5 meters higher than at present.
On the southeastern shore of the lake is the island of ( German: Schnittlauchinsel ), which is 80 meters long and 20 meters wide. On the northern shore of the lake, the steep slopes of the Hurfirsten mountain range ( German Churfirsten ), reaching a height of 2,306 m, approach the water's edge. Mürtschenstock ( German Mürtschenstock ) towers above the southern shore.
The average rate of formation of bottom sediment in the lake is 0.1 mm per year [1] .
Walesa in Culture
The views of the lake inspired Ferenc Liszt during his stay in Switzerland in 1835-1837. The second play of the first volume of his piano cycle “ Years of Wanderings ” is called “On Lake Wallenstadt” ( French “Au lac de Wallenstadt” ) [2] .
