Biography

Born in the family of a priest. He studied at the Arkhangelsk Seminary and at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy, where he completed the course in 1865, and was appointed on October 9 the same year, and 21 entered the Kazan Theological Academy as a bachelor in the department of schism .

Since April 1867, he served as assistant inspector.

In 1869, he was an extraordinary professor, in 1883, after defending his dissertation “A Critical Analysis of the Teachings of the Unacceptable Priesthood of the Old Believers on the Church and the Sacraments” ( Kazan 1883; 2 ed. 1892), he was elected an ordinary professor of the Department of History and the Exposure of the Russian Schism of the Kazan Theological Academy.

Since 1873 he taught the doctrine of schism in the Kazan seminary . Since 1875 - member of the commission for the description of manuscripts of the Solovetsky Monastery . Since 1871, Ivanovsky conducted practical activities to denounce the schism: he talked with Old Believers in Kazan, traveled repeatedly for interviews in the schismatic areas of the Kazan diocese and outside the diocese: in 1882, in Saratov , in 1887–89 and 1891–92, in Nizhny Novgorod , in 1888 and 1889 in St. Petersburg .

In 1898, a complete collection of his works was prepared and the first volume was published. About the anti-splinter activity “A quarter of a century of service since the opening of interviews”.

Died October 25, 1913

The funeral service for N.I. Ivanovsky was performed on October 28, 1913, in the church of the Kazan Theological Academy by His Eminence Jacob, Archbishop of Kazan , with the rector of the academy, His Grace Anatoly, Bishop of Chistopolsky , Rector of the Seminary Michael, Bishop of Cheboksary and a host of clergy.

Nikolai Ivanovich Ivanovsky was buried in the Arskoye cemetery of Kazan , a cross of black marble was installed on the tombstone.

Family

Since 1866 [1] he was married to Alexander Vasilievna Ivanovskaya (nee Pokrovskaya) (1847 - April 15 (24), 1870), daughter of a St. Petersburg priest, translator [2] [3] . Spouse N. I. Ivanovsky died almost a year after the birth of her son [4] .

The second wife of N.I. Ivanovsky was Maria Nikolaevna Chernova.

Ivanovsky N.I. had three daughters and five sons. Sons - Michael, Nikolai, Cyril, Vladimir and Eugene.

In Soviet times, Mikhail and Nikolai headed the departments of higher mathematics in Omsk and Krasnoyarsk. Cyril in 1920-21 served at the headquarters of Ungern, in 1923-1942 he was under the control of the OGPU and the KGB. He was sentenced to death twice, died his death in a prison in Omsk in 1942.
