Chelenk ( tur . Çelenk ) - the insignia used in the Ottoman Empire , a silver jewelry for a turban in the form of a sultan, studded with precious stones . It had the form of a flower with petals, from which 13 rays departed. Initially, the chelenk was a feather, also attached to the turban as a reward for courage.

Chelenki were made at the expense of the treasury and were given as a reward especially distinguished themselves in battle [1] . After the successful for the Turks battle at Banyaluk ( 1737 ) during the Ottoman Empire’s war with Russia and Austria, Ottoman soldiers were given two thousand chaffs as a reward for a successful military operation [2] .
Chelenk was granted by Sultan Selim III to English Admiral Horatio Nelson (together with the Order of the Crescent ) for the victory over the French in the Battle of Abukir and the Russian Admiral Fyodor Fedorovich Ushakov for taking the fortress on Korfu Island.
