Burkhardt, Titus

Titus Burkhardt (also known as Ibrāhīm 'Izz al-Dīn, 1908-1984) - metaphysician, philosopher, specialist in the field of comparative religion, researcher of traditional art and civilization. One of the founders of the Pernalist school, along with Shuon . The grand-nephew of the more famous in Russia Jacob Burkhardt ; during the First World War, while studying at a Basel school, he made friends with Schuon (who was a year older), translated into German German.

The author of the Introduction to the Sufi Doctrine (Von Sufitum) and other books on esotericism and art in various traditions. In the 1930s, he lived for several years in Morocco , where he studied Arabic. He is known for translations of Ibn Arabi , about whom he also wrote "Clé spirituelle de l'astrologie musulmane d'après Mohyddîn Ibn 'Arabî."
