Biography
She was born on March 15, 1837 in Paris to the family of opera singer and famous teacher Marie de l'Ile ( Claude-Marie-Mécène Marié de l'Isle ), who was engaged in her musical education. At the age of fifteen, she married the sculptor Gully ( Jean-Pierre Victor Gally ), who died in 1861 .
She debuted in 1859 in Strasbourg , then sang in Toulouse . From 1862 to 1885 - in the opera troupe " Opera-Comic ". In 1866, she sang the title role in Ambroise Tom 's opera “ Mignon ” [5] with great success, becoming strongly associated in the minds of the audience with this image, so that when the opera was later resumed with another performer, the critic protested: “ Mignon is Galli “Mary, no one else should sing this role .”
She entered the world music history as the first performer of the role of Carmen in the eponymous opera Bizet (March 3, 1875). She carefully worked with the composer to create the image of her character. She rejected all the options for the output aria offered by him, until he brought her “Habanera” (according to E. Giro , up to 13 options for the output aria of Carmen were made).
She toured in Italy, Russia, England, Belgium. In 1890, she participated in the production of “Carmen” (t-r “Opera Comic”), the collection from which went to the construction of the monument to G. Bizet.
Creativity
She had a rather high mezzo-soprano [6] . One of the critics responded to her successful debut in Pergolesi's “The Maid, Mrs. ”: “ She is small and graceful, with cat movements, with a lively and playful physiognomy, and in all her appearance, in all her personality there is something mischievous and mischievous . She plays as if she really was a servant in the rich houses of the times of Moliere ; she sings with her voice round and fresh, piquant and tender ” [7] .
The first performer of the parts Carmen in the opera Bizet , Mignon in the opera of the same name by Tom , Lazaril in the opera Don César de Bazan Masséne, Friday in the operetta Robinson Crusoe of Offenbach .
