Origin
Presumably, the symbol came from a stylized pair of letters S - the abbreviation of the German word Satz, which means "phrase, sentence." According to another version, this is a combination of two letters S, denoting the abbreviation of the Latin signum sectiōnis - “section label”. [one]
Terms of Use in the Russian Typographic Tradition
The sign does not double when designating several (many) paragraphs. According to the technical rules of the set, beating this sign from the next digit is semi-skel. When turned off, the beating does not change.
Computer Input
- To dial this character in Microsoft Windows , type Alt + 21 (or Alt + 0167 ) on the numeric keypad with Num Lock turned on .
- On Mac OS, you need to switch to the English layout and press Alt + 6 .
