Sweatshirt in its original meaning
Initially, a "sweatshirt" is a spacious, long, sinking to the hips, sometimes on a yoke with thick assemblies men's shirt from a variety of plain dyed one-color fabrics, worn out of the box, often with a belt. The use of a standing collar and button fasteners, chest and side pockets is acceptable. This type of clothing, similar to a military gymnast , was steadily associated with the image of Leo Tolstoy replicated in photographs in old age and became widespread among his fans and followers of Leo Tolstoy, although the word itself entered the Russian language not earlier than the 1920s and in the years life of L. N. Tolstoy was not fixed.
Modern Hoodies
Over time, the use of this word expanded: they could designate, in addition to sweatshirts in the original sense of the word, underwear for men made of thick fabric. In modern Russian, the word "sweatshirt" is one of the designations for a knitted , usually cotton sweater, unisex sports streamlined appearance worn as a second layer of clothing. Such a sweatshirt has long sleeves, a rounded low collar without a fastener, an elastic band at the bottom. The sweatshirt may have hidden side pockets and a hood (such a sweatshirt is called a hoodie or hood). Another popular designation for this type of clothing is a sweatshirt (from the English sweatshirt ). The main purpose of such a sweatshirt is to help maintain heat. A sweatshirt is today one of the most common types of warming clothing in the cold season or outerwear in warm weather. In the modern world, a sweatshirt is not only functional, but also a piece of clothing integrated into the fashion system: almost all sweatshirts produced for both women and men are decorated with prints. Manufacturers apply logos, embroidery and ornaments to them. Hoodies often act as corporate (for example, university) clothing or uniforms. With the active development of the sports style, the sweatshirt became widespread among young people and became an integral attribute of urban sports enthusiasts (skaters, skateboarders, cyclists) and representatives of subcultures.
Materials and manufacturing techniques
The following materials are used for the production of hoodies:
- dense 100% cotton knitted fabric;
- footer - a knitted fabric made of cotton with polyester or viscose with lycra with a density of 180 to 600 g / m²; there are two or three strands.
- fleece - a knitted fabric made of polyester with or without fleece with a density of 180 to 450 g / m². A fleece sweatshirt is commonly called a “fleece”.
Silk screen printing , thermal printing , embroidery and pigment printing are used for footwear products. For products made of fleece, only embroidery, sublimation and several types of thermal printing are suitable. Screen printing for fleece hoodies is not used due to the specifics of the canvas.
The technology for sewing hoodies is subject to all the rules for working with a knitted fabric. When cutting finished products from a knitted fabric, the fact that the finished sweatshirt should stretch in width and should not stretch in length must be taken into account. The following types of sewing machines are used for sewing a sweatshirt: overlock (for sewing product seams), a flat- seam machine (for hemming) and a single-needle machine (for stitching pockets, hoods and collars).
