The Gold Leaf is an annual Russian theater award established especially for graduates of the state theater and cinema universities of the capital. It is carried out with the support of the Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography of Russia and the Department of Culture of the Government of Moscow . The prize was first awarded in 2006 .
The purpose of the award is to financially support young actors, to draw the attention of directors, acting agencies, and, possibly, a wider audience to them.
The general provisions of the award, the procedure for the nomination and selection of its applicants, as well as the procedure for its award and presentation are governed by the Regulation on the Golden Leaf Theater Award, approved by the decision of the Prize Organizing Committee of April 20, 2006 (protocol No. 4 / D).
The competitive cycle of the prize in accordance with the above Regulation is the period from September 1 of the current year to May 20 of the next calendar year.

Founders
The Golden Leaf Theater Award was established by:
- Vrublevskaya Elena Antonovna , president of the award, art critic, journalist;
- Zolotarev Sergey Nikolaevich , Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the prize, philanthropist;
- Kronos LLC;
- Cultural Institution “ Elena Vrublevskaya Gallery ”;
- ANO International Theater Center "The World";
- With the support of the Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography of Russia and the Department of Culture of the Government of Moscow .
Selection of nominees and nominations
The nominees for the Golden Leaf Theater Award are selected among graduate students participating in diploma performances of the following five Russian state theater and cinema universities:
- Russian Institute of Theater Arts - GITIS ;
- School-Studio of the Moscow Art Theater named after V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko ;
- VGIK named after S. A. Gerasimov ;
- Higher Theater School named after M. S. Shchepkin ;
- Higher Theater School named after B.V. Schukin .
Only the performances of Moscow state universities can be nominated for competitions in competitions established by the Regulations of the Prize. All the graduation performances of the fourth courses of the listed educational institutions are considered. Performances of commercial universities are not considered.
In the competition of student diploma works, three main nominations are established :
- "Best Actress";
- "Best Actor";
- "The best acting ensemble."
According to the results of the competition, 11 prizes are awarded: two prizes for each of the five universities, and among five universities, one prize for the "Best Acting Ensemble". In exceptional cases, the Prize Organizing Committee may establish an additional nomination.
Each nominee for “Best Actress” and “Best Actress” is awarded an Honorary Diploma, a statuette (by sculptor Grigory Pototsky) and a monetary reward. In the nomination “Best Acting Ensemble”, each participant of the performance is awarded with an honorary diploma.
