Writing History

As the saga tells of Egil , Egil, like his whole family, was in a strained relationship with the king Harald and his children. While in Norway, he killed one of the sons of Erik the Blood Ax , which brought about his anger and the alleged curse of his witch-wife Gunnhild. Egil went to England, to King Athelstan, whom he had served before. However, his ship crashed off the coast of Northumbria, which was then ruled by just Eirik the Bloody Ax. Egil's friend, Arinbjörn was close to Eirik. Egil went to him, in York, the capital of Northumbria. Arinbjörn tried to reconcile Aigil with Eirik, but he only managed to beg for a reprieve until the morning ("killing at night is a low murder" - the argument that convinced Eirik). During the night, Egil, on the advice of Arinbjörn, composed a song of praise about Eirik. At first, some swallow interfered with him, but Arinbjörn drove her away and sat all night and wiped it near the window. The saga makes it clear that it was Gunnhild. In the morning, Egil sang his song and received permission to leave, with the condition never to catch Erik's eyes again.
