James McCarthy - Best Young Player of the Year 2009

Young Player of the Year by the Scottish Professional Football Association ( SPFA) Young Player of the Year is an annual award awarded to the best young football player of the year in Scottish football . The award was first presented at the end of the 1977/78 season . The winner is determined by voting among the members of the Scottish professional football association (SPPA) football players union ( SPFA ).

The first winner of the award was the midfielder of the club “ Dundee United ” Graham Payne , the first non-Scottish footballer to receive this prize is Stylian Petrov - at the time the midfielder “ Celtic ”. The current owner of the award is Celtic defender Kieran Tirny ^[1] .
