Biography

Born on November 14, 1860, the son of Privy Councilor I.A. Arens . He received his primary education at the Odessa Real School, after which he entered the Nikolaev Engineering School . On August 8, 1880, he was released as second lieutenant to the 1st combat engineer battalion, but did not appear in service, as he was left to take a course of sciences at the Nikolaev Engineering Academy , and this is recorded on the board of his graduates at the Military Engineering and Technical University in St. Petersburg .

On April 22, 1882, Arens was transferred to the Life Guard as an engineer battalion with the rank of ensign and subsequently received the ranks of second lieutenant of the guard (August 30, 1884), lieutenant of the guard with renaming as army captains (January 1, 1885) and captain (April 9) 1889).

From January 12, 1890 to January 29, 1897 he was a part of the Warsaw Serfdom and was the manufacturer of new forts in Warsaw, then until November 17 he was in the same position in Kronstadt . After that he was a senior clerk of the construction of field railways, December 6, 1898 promoted to lieutenant colonel .

From March 27, 1900 to April 14, 1903 he held the post of headquarters officer in charge of training officers at the Nikolaev Engineering Academy, on December 6, 1902 he received the rank of colonel . In 1903, to defend his dissertation, he was appointed full-time teacher of this academy.

Arens' military literary works:

  • “The project of concessional intermediate half-crowns in the gorge corners of the main shaft of long-term forts” (1903, awarded the 2nd prize of 500 rubles at a competition in the corps of military engineers);
  • “Scarp and counter-scarp walls, their foundations and their protection from dampness” (1903, dissertation on the title of teacher)
  • “Concrete powder cellars and artillery laboratories” (1905);
  • “The modern structure of combat and residential casemated premises” (1908).

He also took an active part in writing articles for the Sytin’s Military Encyclopedia .

In 1907-1910, Arens, in addition to teaching, held the position of architect of the Military Medical Academy .

With the outbreak of World War I, Arens was drafted into the army, and since March 1915 he was an assistant to the chief of engineers of the front armies.

He died on February 23, 1916 in a Kiev military hospital after a serious illness.

Among other awards, Arens had orders:

  • Order of St. Stanislav 2nd degree (1901)
  • Order of St. Anne of the 2nd degree (1905)
  • Order of St. Vladimir 4th degree (1910)
  • Order of St. Stanislav 1st degree (February 24, 1915)

His brother Eugene (156-1931), a fleet general, professor at the Nikolaev Naval Academy , after the revolution, served in the RKKF .
