The Surahan region of the city of Baku ( azerb. Suraxanı rayonu ) is the administrative unit of Azerbaijan , one of the 12 administrative regions of the city of Baku . Located in the southeastern part of the Absheron Peninsula .

History
Surakhani district is one of the oldest settlements of the Absheron Peninsula. The most developed settlements in the region received at the end of the 19th century , when oil production began to develop at a rapid pace in Azerbaijan. Many of the well-known oil industrialists had oil fields here. The district as an administrative unit was formed in May 1920 as the Ordzhonikidze district of Baku in honor of Grigory Ordzhonikidze , in 1992 it was renamed the Surakhansky district.
On the territory of the district is the architectural and historical complex Ateshgah - the shrine of fire-worshipers, as well as the 14th century Nizameddin mosque and the two-domed Juma mosque ( 1905 ). In the village of Amirajan there is a house-museum of the famous Azerbaijani artist Sattar Bahlulzade .
Political structure
The activities of the executive branch of the Surakhani region are based on the “Regulation on local executive authorities”. Currently, the Head of the executive branch is Ilgar Namaz oglu Abbasov.
