Biography
Born on November 14, 1894 in the village of Kudrovka, Sosnitskaya volost, Chernihiv province , in the family of a priest.
He studied at the Chernihiv Theological Seminary . At the end of the historical department of the Nizhyn Historical and Philological Institute, Prince Bezborodko successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in 1919 on the subject: “Polish-Cossack wars before Bohdan Khmelnitsky”.
He worked as a teacher in rural schools (1919-1923), lectured on the history of Ukraine in the Nezhinsky INO (1923-1924).
In 1928 received the title of professor. In the same year he was arrested "for nationalist activity."
In 1934-1938 - researcher at the Antiquities Department of the National Library of Ukraine.
From 1937 to 1941 he worked at the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR as a researcher, director (1942-1947), head of the department of archeography (1947).
In 1939, Nikolai Petrovsky was awarded the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences .
With the beginning of World War II, together with the Institute of History, he was evacuated to Ufa (1941-1943), and then to Moscow (1943-1944).
Since 1944 - Head of the Department of History of Ukraine, Kiev University . He taught the history of the USSR . He was a consultant to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Ukrainian SSR . Member of the Ukrainian SSR delegation at UN assemblies in San Francisco (1945), London (1946), as well as at a peace conference in Paris (1946).
He worked in the All-Slav Committee. Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (from February 12, 1945).
The author of more than 200 scientific works on the history of Ukraine, Ukrainian historiography of the XVII - XVIII centuries .
He died on July 20, 1951 in Kiev .
