1956–1960, under the leadership of Imam-Ghazali Nurayev, the first reconstruction of the Gergebil HPP was carried out with the installation of an additional 2 units with a capacity of 1,660 kW each, with an increase in the height of the dam by 2 meters and an extension of the machine room. The installed capacity of hydroelectric power plants was increased to 7.5 MW. He played a huge role in the electrification of the mountainous regions of the Republic of Dagestan, the creation of the main overhead lines in the North Caucasus.
