It is named after the historic city with the same name ( Bethel in the Russian translation of the Bible), the ruins of which have been preserved nearby, near the Arab village of Beitin.
The bulk of the population are religious settlers . In Beyt-El, Bnei Menashe also compactly lives - people who consider themselves the descendants of ten lost tribes come from Manipur and Mizoram . In Beit-El, the yeshiva of the same name is located, headed by Zalman Melamed . The rabbi of the settlement is Shlomo Aviner .
