History

The first store network

Gloria Jean's Coffees was founded by Gloria Jean Kvetko in 1979 in Chicago (USA). Initially, Gloria Jean's Coffees was a small coffee shop and gift shop, and in 1986 Gloria and her husband decided to provide franchising to use their concept. As a result, over time, the company from one store grew into a large network with more than 110 coffee shops in all US states and focused on large shopping centers.

In 1991, the company earned the title of Best Retail Chain of the Year in Illinois. Soon, the company received the first prize of Entrepreneur Magazines, which named it the best franchisor specializing in the sale of elite coffee in America in five years.

In 1995, partners Nabi Sale and Peter Irwin acquired franchising for the Gloria Jean's Coffees brand in Australia, with the result that the first Gloria Jean's Coffees coffee shop was opened in November 1996 in Miranda, New South Wales. At the end of November of the same year, a second coffee shop was opened in Australia - in the city of Eastgarden. In 2005, Nabi and Peter acquired from Gloria Jean's Coffees America the right to represent this trademark in all countries of the world except the USA and Puerto Rico .

Today Gloria Jean's Coffees network owns more than 800 different outlets around the world, in particular, and in the CIS countries .

Charity

In mid-2009, Gloria Jean's Coffees International opened its GJCI “With Heart” charity fund, designed to support various charities such as Opportunity International .

Gloria Jean's Coffees in the CIS

Gloria Jean's Coffees is also represented in the countries of the former Soviet Union . In particular, the company has already quite successfully entered the market of Russia (1 coffee shop), Ukraine (3 coffee shops, the franchise owner is TOV Royal Tea and Cava company), Azerbaijan (5 coffee houses), Uzbekistan (1 coffee house) and Kazakhstan (5 coffee houses) ) In addition, the first Gloria Jean's Coffees fan site was also launched in Ukraine by fans of this coffee shop.

Criticism

In 2009, Gloria Jean's Coffees found itself at the center of a scandal caused by the excessive content of carbohydrates and fats in some of its products. For example, Gloria Jeans Mocha Chiller Coco Loco contains 95.5 g of sugar, which is 106% of the recommended daily intake [1] .
