Song of the Wolund

The Song of Völundark ( Völundarkviða ) is an Old Norse work (song) from the collection of Icelandic songs about the gods and heroes of Norse mythology - Elder Edda (Song Edda, Edda Samunda). The song was recorded in the second half of the 13th century by the Icelandic scholar Samund the Wise, but it arose much earlier and was transmitted in oral folklore.

The Song of Völund tells how three brothers (Slagfid, Egil and Völund ) married three Valkyries (Hladgut, Herwer, Elrun). Egil took the wives of Elrun, Slagfit - the Coldfoot, and Völund - the Herver. Then the Valkyries raced off in search of battles. Slugfid and Egil went in search of them, and Völund remained in Uldwalir and became a skilled craftsman. Konung Nidud ordered to seize Völund, he removed the ring from the bast rope of Völund and gave it to his daughter Bedwild, and he began to wear the Völund sword. After this, Niduda's wife, apparently fearing Völund's revenge, advised her husband to cut Völund's tendons and imprison him on the island. And this was done: Velundu was cut with tendons below his knees and imprisoned on the island of Svarsted, where he made all kinds of jewelry for Nidud, no one but the king dared to visit Velund. The two sons of Nidud decided to look at the treasures. They went to the island of Svarsted. Völund lured both, cut off their heads, made cups from skulls and sent them to Nidud, thus avenging himself. Then Völund seduced Nidud's daughter, Bedwild, after which he fled the island with improvised wings.
